MissionOS: CAE's Readiness Operating System

Proposed end-state concept for CAE: a networked training system that links simulator tiers, shared airport or mission scenarios, and mission-specific readiness records.

Product Thesis

CAE does not need another standalone simulator product. The bigger opportunity is to make its current estate work as one connected training system. MissionOS is the persistent ecosystem layer that connects CAE's devices, people, training events, and readiness evidence. Six functions: Training Identity, Session Continuity, Exercise Federation, Team Assessment, Readiness Record, and Enterprise View.

What MissionOS Does

FunctionWhat It DoesWhy It Matters
Training IdentityOne persistent profile per person across every CAE device, session, and centreA pilot moving from XR to FTD to FFS is one continuous progression, not three separate logins
Session ContinuityEach training event connects to the ones before it across devices and locationsThe instructor at the FFS sees what happened on the FTD last week. Training becomes a thread.
Exercise FederationMultiple roles, devices, and locations in one synchronized exercisePilot and controller in shared airspace. Bridge crew and helicopter in one tactical scenario.
Team AssessmentHow well did the crew coordinate, not just how well did each person perform?Rise sees individual maneuvers. Team Assessment sees coordination patterns across roles.
Readiness RecordStructured, fidelity-weighted evidence of what was demonstrated, under what conditionsGrows with every exercise. Becomes the hardest asset to replicate on a competitor's system.
Enterprise ViewThe organization sees readiness across teams, roles, and training programsDecisions driven by accumulated evidence, not scheduling compliance alone.

MissionOS Workflow

Before The Exercise
Training IdentityRecognize the trainee across devices and centres. Load progression history.
Exercise FederationConnect roles, devices, and locations into one synchronized exercise state
During The Exercise
Session ContinuityLink this session to previous ones. Show the instructor what happened last time.
Team AssessmentCapture coordination patterns, timing, and information flow across roles
After The Exercise
Readiness RecordUpdate persistent, fidelity-weighted evidence per individual and team
Enterprise ViewSurface readiness gaps across the organization. Inform next training decisions.

Best Rollout Path

Phase 1

Training Identity + Session Continuity

Persistent profiles, cross-device progression, instructor context from previous sessions

Phase 2

Exercise Federation

Multi-role synchronized exercises across devices and locations

Phase 3

Team Assessment + Readiness Record

Coordination pattern analysis, fidelity-weighted evidence, persistent records

Phase 4

Enterprise View

Organization-wide readiness visibility driven by accumulated evidence

Commercial Read

This is a better business than another simulator box because it increases the value of assets CAE already owns. It can be sold as software, scenario content, and managed-service capability. More importantly, it gives customers a reason to train inside CAE's network rather than buying isolated devices and running them on their own.
